Self-care, birthdays and hot chips
I am a big believer in using annual leave to do things that you love. Travel, relax and have fun. A few years ago I decided that unless absolutely necessary, I would not work on my birthday. So each year I use one of my annual leave days to take my birthday off work.
I am so fortunate to work in a role that means I am not rostered onto service points or teaching classes because in higher education, in Australasia, this is the start of the busiest time of the year. It has been intense the last two weeks for many of the team who work in the our library. Our students are back. It is a wonderful, vibrant, hectic and exciting time on campus! But I won't be at work because tomorrow is my birthday.
I will be spending a day doing a bunch of things I love which includes:
- taking a day off work in the middle of the week
- a leisurely run
- taking myself out to lunch and;
- watching a silly movie or two
All my friends will be at work. It feels very decadent and indulgent. But it's my birthday!
If I could eat anything in the world on my birthday, it would a meal with my family in Melbourne at Gazi . My gift to share with you is recipe for the best chips in the world (IMHO) from Gazi. They are divine!!!
In March I am visiting my family in Melbourne for a catch-up and a meal out together is definitely on the cards. Wishing you all a great day tomorrow!
