Year 2: time travel and new beginnings

Year 2: time travel and new beginnings

Living my best life

This is my second year living back in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and I must say that it has been another hectic, challenging and rewarding year. Highlights include:

Ravello, Italy

Ravello, Italy

  • A 5 week trip to Europe via New York city to see Hamilton the Musical. It was my first big overseas trip by myself. I only had one panic attack in Barcelona when I couldn't work out the ATMs but otherwise it was incredible. I fell in love with Italy. Everywhere I went was amazing: Iceland, London, Paris, Barcelona, Amalfi Coast, Florence and Rome. The art, the light and the food - I can't wait to go back,
  • I wrote a book chapter which is currently being peer reviewed and will be part of an amazing book to be published next year called: Mindfulness in the academy: practices and perspectives from scholars edited by Dr Sharon McDonough and Dr Narelle Lemon. I am really excited by this project and so pleased to be a part of it
  • Keynotes at QPLA, Edtechposium and LX Conference plus a presented a fun workshop on #librarianstyle at LIANZA conference
  • Saw my whānau in Melbourne heaps
  • Finished another Te Reo Māori paper
  • Became professionally registered librarian in Aotearoa (RLIANZA)
  • Kept my ALIA certified professional status (3rd audit)
  • Given an Ally Award by our OUT network for support to rainbow staff and students above and beyond the call of duty
  • Got to meet some incredible Tweeple in real life
  • Fell in love
  • Learned to stitch/embroider
  • Signed another two year lease on my apartment
  • Library whisperers kicked off in January 2018

I would like to give a shoutout to my whānau, friends and colleagues who continue to embolden and inspire me. Without you I couldn't continue to have these amazing professional and personal adventures. I am incredibly grateful.

Next Year

Next year I have decided to speak and travel less. Mainly because in October I was so scatter-brained and over-stretched, I know my limits. I confess to feeling weary and ready to disconnect from work despite, having 4 days left.  I am excited about what 2018 will bring. Wishing you all a safe and jolly break if you are fortunate enough to get one. Ka kite ano.
